I recently did a flying dress photo session at Makapuu Beach Park with the lovely & beautiful Alia! I've now added a flying dress shoot photo package to my list of photo session offerings. I exclusively use m (flash) lights for my flying dress photography sessions, which makes planning a bit more tricky to schedule & having a minimum of 2 assistants.
I've had the opportunity to photograph some stunning flying dress sessions, where I focused on creativity and envisioned the potential of eventually offering this unique genre-styled photo session as a package. Finally, that day became a reality!
We were set to meet at 6 am, but we had an early morning blessing of rain. We were huddled up in our cars until the rain passed at 6:15. With Alia, I wanted to explore different angles to give her a stronger, empowering look. With the sun breaking the horizon & about 10 degrees in the sky & rising fast, I used her body to block the direct sunlight & backlight her and with my flash, I lit up her face & upper torso. The dress flying out to the side was a bit dark, so I added another flash off to camera right to give it a pop of light.
In some of my past flying dress photo sessions, I've had the privilege of collaborating with inspiring & remarkable women who have overcome cancer, fought depression, and celebrated significant milestones. These brave women are on a journey of self-discovery and transformation, much like a butterfly emerging from a cocoon. The flying dress photo session is a powerful tool for anyone seeking to break free and embrace a new, empowered self.
