HAWAII STYLED SUNRISE SURPRISE PROPOSAL

A romantic sunrise proposal on Oahu's stunning coast, capturing a moment of surprise and joy amidst the breathtaking ocean view.

In essence, a surprise proposal is not merely a question posed; it is a heartfelt celebration of love, a vivid memory etched in time, and an emotional milestone that marks the beginning of a new chapter in their lives together.

As an Oahu photographer, it's not something I encounter daily. However, I've been receiving increasing inquiries about surprise proposal sessions recently. Over the past three months, I've completed five surprise proposals, for which I'm grateful! Ary reached out to me for a creative photo shoot featuring glowing lightsabers as a way of rediscovering and falling back in love with herself. She mentioned she'd had a challenging year and wanted this self-empowering photo shoot, and she absolutely nailed it!

So the planning began as she & her boyfriend were flying in from LA for a week. Little did I know her boyfriend reached out to me on Instagram & asked me if I could photograph a surprise proposal sometime during her shoot. Ary had no idea that Jimmy was planning to do this!

I came up with the idea that after we did the creative portion of the shoot, we’d move on to do a couples photo session. I reached out to Ary & asked if she would be willing to help me build some portfolio pictures for couples that I needed, and she was totally on board!

The first part of the creative shoot went smoothly & she loved the images I was capturing. The sun was rising quickly, so we moved to another location that was out of the shade of the mountain. We took some casual couples shots as I moved her into position. I told Jimmy to step out of the frame and that I would shoot only Ary solo. That was his queue to get into position behind her as I directed her to only look at the front of my camera lens.

When I saw Jimming go to one knee, I slowly rotated my position & to have her move with me. Ary was so into the shoot that she never saw Jimmy, who was on one knee right in front of her. I had to tell her to look down, and that’s when she saw Jimmy!

I was scrambling right to left to right to capture all the full emotions of the moment for her to have as one of her life memories. I also had my team take video clips of everything happening, from when Jimmy took a knee to her seeing him with the ring.
